Your driveway is the first thing people see. It takes more punishment than any other surface on your property, daily vehicle traffic, road salt, Toronto’s brutal freeze-thaw winters, and decades of weathering. At Toronto Concrete Repairs, we’ve been installing concrete driveways across Toronto and the GTA for over 15 years. We know exactly what it takes to build a driveway that performs in this climate, looks sharp for decades, and adds real value to your home. Whether you’re replacing a crumbling asphalt driveway, installing new concrete on a fresh build, or upgrading to a decorative stamped or heated driveway, we do it right, the first time.

Toronto is one of the hardest cities in North America on paving materials. Temperatures swing from -25°C in January to +35°C in August. Freeze-thaw cycles can repeat 60+ times every winter, forcing water into every crack and expanding it into major damage. Road salt accelerates the process. Most materials don’t survive it gracefully — concrete does.
A properly installed concrete driveway outlasts asphalt by 15–30 years. In Toronto’s climate, asphalt typically needs full replacement in 15–20 years. Concrete, installed with the right base, thickness, and control joints, will still be performing strong when your neighbours are on their third asphalt job.
Concrete doesn’t need resealing every 2–3 years like asphalt. A quality sealer applied every 4–5 years is all it takes to maintain protection against road salt and water penetration. No potholes, no soft spots, no rutting in summer heat.
A fresh concrete driveway transforms the front of your home immediately. Toronto real estate agents consistently cite exterior improvements — especially driveways — as among the highest ROI upgrades a homeowner can make before listing. A clean, well-finished concrete driveway signals a maintained, quality property before a buyer ever steps inside.
Stamped patterns, exposed aggregate, integral colour, decorative borders — modern concrete gives you the look of premium stone or brick at a fraction of the cost. If you want a driveway that actually stands out on your street, concrete is your best option.
| Concrete | Asphalt | Interlocking | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lifespan | 30–50 years | 15–20 years | 20–30 years |
| Cost | $15–$25/sq ft | $6–$10/sq ft | $20–$35/sq ft |
| Maintenance | Seal every 4–5 years | Reseal every 2–3 years | Weed control, releveling |
| Freeze-Thaw | Excellent | Poor | Fair — stones shift |
| Salt Resistance | Good when sealed | Poor | Fair |
| Decorative Options | Excellent | Limited | Good |
| Snow Removal | Easy — flat surface | Easy | Harder — uneven joints |
| Long-Term Value | Best | Lowest | Mid |
Concrete costs more upfront than asphalt — but delivers far superior long-term value. When you factor in Toronto’s climate,
the maintenance savings, and the lifespan difference, a concrete driveway pays for itself within 15 years compared to repeated asphalt replacements.

The most common concrete driveway in Toronto. A broom finish provides excellent traction in wet and icy conditions, hides minor surface imperfections, and ages gracefully over decades. Clean, durable, and cost-effective — it’s the right call for most GTA homeowners. Starting at $15/sq ft.
The surface cement is washed back to reveal the natural stone aggregate beneath, creating a textured, slip-resistant finish with a distinctive premium appearance. Exposed aggregate is extremely durable, handles road salt well, and provides superior winter traction. One of the most popular driveway upgrades in the GTA. Starting at $20/sq ft.
Patterns are pressed into the concrete while wet — mimicking natural stone, slate, cobblestone, brick, or custom designs — then coloured and sealed. Stamped concrete delivers a high-end, estate-style appearance at 30–40% less than actual stone or interlocking. Popular patterns include ashlar slate, random stone, cobblestone, and European fan. Starting at $25/sq ft.
Integral colour is mixed throughout the full depth of the slab — not just surface-applied — creating consistent colour that won’t fade or chip. Available in a wide range of tones from charcoal and slate to warm earth tones and custom shades. Can be combined with stamping or broom finish. Add $2–$4/sq ft to base price.
Never shovel your driveway again. We install hydronic in-floor heating systems beneath concrete driveways that automatically melt snow and ice on contact. Heated driveways are a premium upgrade — but for Toronto homeowners who want complete winter convenience, they’re life-changing. We’re one of the few GTA concrete contractors offering complete heated driveway installation from the heating system through to the finished concrete surface. Electric systems from $35–$50/sq ft. Hydronic/glycol systems from $50–$70/sq ft.
Interested in a heated driveway? See our dedicated heated driveways Toronto page.
We design and build curved, circular, and custom-shaped driveways for properties that need more than a standard rectangular approach. Circular driveways are popular in Forest Hill, Rosedale, Lawrence Park, Leaside, and Bridle Path — properties where the frontage and architecture call for a distinguished, estate-style entrance.
We visit your property, assess site conditions — soil type, drainage, grade, access, existing driveway state and give you a detailed, fixed quote. We’ll also advise on City of Toronto permit requirements specific to your property.
The City of Toronto requires a permit for any new driveway installation that changes the existing footprint, widens the driveway, or connects to a City road allowance. We handle the entire permit process for you, drawings, submission, and approval. We know the requirements for every GTA municipality we serve. For City of Toronto permit information, visit toronto.ca.
We break up and fully remove the existing surface and dispose of all debris. At this stage we inspect the base layer, any drainage or soil issues are identified and addressed now, before they become expensive problems later.
This is the most critical step in the entire job. We install 4–6 inches of compacted granular base — gravel or stone screenings, to create a stable, frost-resistant foundation. A solid base is what separates a concrete driveway that lasts 40 years from one that cracks in 5. We never skip this step or cut it short.
We set forms to define the driveway shape and edges. Wire mesh or rebar is placed based on driveway size and vehicle load. Control joints are cut or formed every 8–12 feet, these allow controlled expansion and contraction and prevent random cracking through the slab.
We pour to a minimum 6-inch thickness for all residential driveways, the correct standard for Toronto’s frost depth and load requirements. The surface is finished to your specification. We work efficiently to ensure a consistent, cold-joint-free pour on every project.
A curing compound is applied immediately after finishing to lock in moisture and ensure full strength development. After the 28-day full cure, the surface is sealed to protect against road salt, staining, and water infiltration.
Timeline: Most residential driveways take 3–5 days start to finish. Drive on it after 14 days. Full cure at 28 days.
| Driveway Type | Per Sq Ft | Typical Double Car |

| Stamped concrete | $25 | $10,000–$12,500 |

In most cases within the City of Toronto — yes. A permit is required when you are changing the driveway footprint, widening, or creating a new connection to the road allowance. Toronto’s Right of Way Management division handles driveway permits, which typically cost $200–$500 depending on scope. Key rules Toronto homeowners should know: maximum residential driveway width is generally 6 metres (approximately 20 feet), a 0.6-metre setback from the property line is required, and permeable surface requirements may apply in certain zones.
Every GTA municipality — Mississauga, Vaughan, Markham, Oakville, Brampton — has its own permit requirements. We handle the full permit process for every area we serve so you don’t have to navigate city administration on your own.

Nick and the guys did a fantastic job replacing our concrete driveway in Toronto. Highly recommend this company for any concrete work.Posted on Rick MachtingerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had a problem with our garage floor where it was cracked by the lip. Hubert came out to inspect the floor and gave me two options. The first was to just repair the lip and this would have been the less expensive option. The more expensive option was to replace the entire floor. When asking for his professional opinion, Hubert said it was my choice, but in his experience a cracked lip also meant there would be issues with the rest of the floor. I decided that we would replace the entire floor and I am glad I did. The problem when the garage floor was initially installed was that the concrete was poured over the rebar instead of the rebar being embedded in the concrete. I'm glad I listened to the professional as this would have been a headache in the future. The guys worked hard and clean up was good. Thanks again Hubert!Posted on Rebecca PotterTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. A standard broom finish concrete driveway in Toronto starts at $15 per square foot. Exposed aggregate starts at $20/sq ft and stamped concrete at $25/sq ft. A typical double-car driveway runs $6,000–$12,500 depending on finish. Heated driveways are a premium investment starting at $35/sq ft for electric systems and $50/sq ft for hydronic. All prices include demolition, base prep, pour, finishing, and cleanup. We provide free on-site estimates with no obligation.
A properly installed concrete driveway in Toronto lasts 30–50 years. The key factors are a solid compacted base (4–6 inches of gravel), minimum 6-inch concrete thickness, correct control joint placement, and sealing every 4–5 years to protect against road salt and freeze-thaw cycles. We’ve replaced driveways originally poured in the 1970s — and we build every new one to go another 40+ years.
Most residential driveway projects take 3–5 days from demolition to completion. You can walk on it after 24–48 hours, drive on it after 7 days, and it reaches full strength at 28 days. We recommend avoiding heavy vehicles and sharp turns on new concrete for the first month.
We can pour in late fall and early spring when daytime temperatures are consistently above 5°C and the concrete won’t freeze in the first 3–5 days after pouring. For colder conditions we use accelerated concrete mixes and insulated curing blankets. The ideal season is May through October — contact us if your project is urgent and we’ll assess feasibility based on the forecast.
Exposed aggregate and broom finish are the top performers in Toronto’s climate — both provide excellent traction on wet and icy surfaces and hold up well against road salt. Stamped concrete is the best choice if you want a premium decorative look. Smooth trowel finish is not recommended for driveways as it becomes dangerously slippery when wet. We’ll recommend the right finish for your property, budget, and use during your free consultation.
A minimum of 6 inches for residential driveways in Toronto. This accounts for our frost depth, heavy vehicle loads, and freeze-thaw cycle stress. The granular base beneath should be 4–6 inches of compacted gravel. Some contractors pour 4-inch residential driveways to cut costs — we don’t. Undersized driveways fail prematurely in our climate and we’ve replaced plenty of them.
Stamped concrete is poured as one solid surface and stamped with patterns mimicking stone, brick, or slate. Interlocking consists of individual paving stones with sand joints between them. Stamped concrete costs 20–40% less, won’t shift or sink over time, has no joints for weeds, and is easier to shovel. The one advantage of interlocking is that individual damaged stones can be replaced without disturbing the full surface. For most Toronto homeowners, stamped concrete delivers better long-term value and a comparable high-end appearance.
