Concrete resurfacing · Toronto and the GTA
Cracked, stained or worn out concrete? If it's solid underneath, it can look new again.
Toronto Concrete Repairs resurfaces driveways, porches, patios, pool decks, garage and basement floors across Toronto and the GTA. A new bonded surface over the concrete you already have, in one to two days, with a written warranty.
Quick answer
Concrete resurfacing is a fresh polymer modified layer bonded directly over your existing concrete. It covers cracks, pitting, staining and surface wear without the cost or disruption of tearing the slab out. Done with proper preparation, a resurfaced slab looks new and lasts 8 to 15 years. It's the right call when the concrete is structurally sound but cosmetically damaged, and it typically costs 30 to 50 percent of replacement. Most jobs take one to two days. When the slab has failed underneath, resurfacing won't hold, and we'll say so and price replacement alongside it. Not sure which you need? Start with our Concrete Repair Toronto page.
Start here
Resurfacing only works when the slab underneath is sound. That's the whole test. Here's how we decide, before we quote you anything.
An overlay can't fix what's happening underneath. If your concrete lands in the right column, we quote replacement honestly instead. If it's only the surface, repair plus resurfacing is usually the answer. Text three photos and we'll tell you which.
What we resurface
A bonded overlay restores the surface, fixes crumbling edges and matches the texture, then gets a protective sealer against salt.
Porches, steps and landings resurfaced with overlays, decorative finishes or slip resistant coatings. Our most common job.
Spalling, pitting and oil stains ground out, repaired and resurfaced with coatings that take tires, chemicals and Toronto winters.
Slip resistant, UV stable coatings that stay cool underfoot and stand up to freeze and thaw and bare feet all summer.
Stamped, broom or knockdown overlays in 20 colours that turn plain concrete into a finish you chose.
A rubberized, waterproof, crack resistant coating for pool decks, garage floors, porches and balconies. Limited lifetime warranty.

The process
Most resurfacing failures happen because the prep was skipped. The overlay peels, the cracks come back through, and the homeowner pays twice. Here's what we do on every job, and why.
Photos or a site visit. We check that the concrete is sound and not moving, because an overlay over a bad base fails no matter how well it's applied.
Diamond grinding opens the pores and strips old sealers, paint and oil. Cracks are opened and filled, spalls rebuilt, loose material removed. This is the step that decides how long it lasts.
Bonding primer, then the right system for the surface: polymer modified overlay for driveways and porches, polyaspartic or Graniflex for garages and pool decks.
Broom, stamped, knockdown or flake finish, then sealed against salt, water and UV. Cure times before foot and vehicle traffic are in your quote.
The honest comparison
We do both, so we have no reason to push you toward either. Every quote shows the options side by side with what each costs and how long each lasts.

Residential and commercial. We resurface homes, commercial buildings, warehouses and property managed sites across the GTA, with the same prep standard on every one. For commercial work scheduled around operating hours, see commercial concrete.

Our three concrete veranda steps needed a crack repaired and resurfacing on the backs and sides. Several other concrete companies would not consider the work as they deemed it too small a job. Toronto Concrete gave us a reasonable estimate and timeframe, came at the agreed time and completed the work in the agreed timeframe.

I want to thank the people at Toronto Concrete for taking our front porch from frumpy to fabulous. Conscientious and in a timely manner. They were a pleasure to deal with.

Questions
Yes, when the slab is sound. Resurfacing bonds a fresh layer over your existing concrete, covering cracks, staining and surface damage, and delivers like new results at roughly 30 to 50 percent of the cost of replacement. It's a bad idea on concrete that's heaving, sinking or cracked through, because the overlay can't fix what's happening underneath. We check that first and tell you honestly which you have.
Professionally prepared and applied, 8 to 15 years depending on the product, the preparation and the traffic. The two biggest factors are prep quality, meaning grinding and cleaning the slab, and the grade of material. Hardware store resurfacers typically last 2 to 5 years. Our overlays and Graniflex coatings carry a written warranty and are formulated for Toronto's freeze and thaw cycles, which are the number one cause of early failure.
Not plain concrete, no. Without a bond, the new layer delaminates and the cracks telegraph through within a season or two. The correct approach is a polymer modified overlay that bonds chemically to the prepared slab, or full removal and replacement if the slab is structurally compromised.
It depends on the surface. For garage floors and pool decks, polyaspartic or Graniflex coatings give the best durability and UV resistance. For driveways, porches and patios, a polymer modified concrete overlay bonds strongly and can be broom finished, stamped or textured. We assess each surface and recommend the right system for your conditions and budget.
Resurfacing is a thin cementitious layer applied over existing concrete to restore the surface. A concrete overlay is the same idea but typically thicker and decorative: stamped, coloured or textured. Resurfacing is mainly functional, overlays are functional and aesthetic. Both bond to the existing slab and avoid the cost of replacement.
An overlay needs a structurally sound base; it can't fix heaving, settling or drainage problems. It needs professional surface preparation to bond, and a poorly prepared surface delaminates within a season or two. It also adds a small amount of height, which has to be accounted for at doorways, drains and transitions.
Yes. The slab has to be mechanically profiled with a diamond grinder to open the pores and remove sealers, oils and contaminants. Skipping this is the number one reason resurfacing fails early. It's not optional on our jobs.
Epoxy systems typically run $3 to $8 per square foot and premium polyaspartic or Graniflex coatings $6 to $12 per square foot. A standard two car garage floor of about 400 square feet lands around $1,500 to $4,000 depending on the system, the condition of the slab and any repairs needed. Text three photos and you'll have a written quote, usually within one business day, with the price held 21 days.
Yes. A polymer modified skim coat, typically 3 to 10 mm thick, restores a smooth fresh surface on concrete that's sound but cosmetically worn. It needs proper preparation and a bonding agent. It isn't suitable for concrete with active cracks, heaving or drainage problems.
