Can a garage floor be polished?
Yes. Many Toronto garage floors can be mechanically ground, densified and polished into a hard, dust free, low maintenance surface with no coating to peel under hot tires. The catch is the slab itself: garage concrete is often softer, more pitted and more salt damaged than interior slabs, so the honest first step is an assessment of hardness, damage and moisture. When a slab isn't a good polishing candidate, a flake or epoxy system usually is, and we install all three, so the recommendation follows the slab, not our equipment.

All three are good finishes. They solve different problems, and the deciding factor is almost always the condition of the slab underneath. Polishing refines what you already have; epoxy and flake add a new surface on top and hide what's below.

How garage floor polishing works
Assess and test
Slab hardness, damage, contamination and moisture checked on site. The finding, polish or coat instead, goes in writing.
Repair and prepare
Cracks and spalls filled, contamination degreased, the surface ground clean. Preparation is where garage floors are won or lost.
Grind and densify
Progressively finer diamond passes, then a chemical densifier that hardens the surface and stops the dusting garage slabs are known for.
Polish and protect
Refined to your chosen sheen and finished with a penetrating guard for stain resistance against road salt and drips.

It depends on the slab. Polishing is the more durable, lower maintenance finish on a sound, hard slab, because there's no coating to peel or lift. Epoxy and flake systems win on damaged, pitted or heavily stained slabs because they repair and hide in one system, and flake adds the best wet grip. We install all three, so the recommendation follows the floor.
Wet polished concrete is comparable to smooth concrete or tile for slip, and matte finishes and anti slip treatments are available where grip matters. Salt sitting on any garage floor over winter should be washed off; on a polished, densified and guarded surface it cleans off rather than eating in the way it does on bare concrete.
Light damage can be repaired and polished, but the repairs remain visible in the finished floor. Deep salt pitting, soft dusting concrete or heavy oil contamination usually make a flake or epoxy system the smarter call, or, when the slab is past saving, a garage floor replacement followed by the finish of your choice. The assessment settles which situation yours is.
