The best way to repair / resurface a concrete porch in Toronto is to clean and prep the surface properly. Repair the concrete with either concrete or epoxy mortar. You can then apply a concrete overlay often referred to as “Jewelstone” or a concrete coating often reffered to as “Epoxy”. Please do not apply Epoxy on your porch and steps if it is exposed to sun and it is not UV resistant.
We will perform an appropriate repair using state of the art concrete repair materials depending on the damage.
The following procedure is recommended for cracks in Toronto that are ½” wide or less and ¼” deep. Chisel out the crack to create a backward-angled cut. Clean out any loose material from the crack. Apply a thin layer of bonding adhesive. Mix and trowel reinforced patching compound into the crack.
Concrete overlay (Often referred to as Jewelstone) is a high-strength acrylic polymer mixed with cement and sand. It creates a very durable and rigid thin topping that resists scratches and abrasion. It gets applied over existing concrete, wood or ceramic tiles for repair, resurfacing or decorative reasons.
Concrete Overlays can be applied as thin as a feather finish up to in most cases 3/4″ depending on the desired finish. UV resistant sealer gets applied with all of our concrete overlays. Few textures and many colours to choose from!
Decorative concrete overlays are as durable and long lasting as the underlying concrete. If properly installed and maintained, there is no reason a modern decorative concrete overlay won’t last for decades, even in harsh climates.
